About
About Senior Living Index
An open index of licensed US residential senior living, built from public records — because families deserve a complete, honest answer, not a lead-capture funnel.
Why this exists
Most senior-living directories are referral businesses: they are paid by facilities — often a percentage of the first month's rent — when a family they captured moves in. That model rewards hiding prices, gating information behind contact forms, and steering families toward whoever pays. We think the model is the problem, so we don't use it.
Senior Living Index starts from the record every state already keeps: its licensing roster. Every licensed community is listed whether or not it ever pays us anything. No listing can be bought, buried, or boosted.
How the index is built
- Government sources only. Data comes from state licensing agencies' public rosters, fetched politely (throttled, honest user-agent) by our automated pipelines. We never scrape commercial directories.
- Provenance on every field. Each record names its source agency and the date we retrieved it, and links to the source data. If a field isn't in the state's roster, we say so instead of guessing.
- Nothing is editorialized. We publish what the state publishes — names, license numbers, statuses, capacities — and label our own additions clearly when we add any.
- Validated before it ships. Every state's data passes schema and sanity checks before it appears here; anomalies are investigated, not papered over.
Today the index covers Georgia — 1,846 licensed communities from the Georgia Department of Community Health, Healthcare Facility Regulation Division, retrieved July 7, 2026. States are added one at a time. Inspection and survey histories are the next major addition.
What's in scope — and what isn't
Residential senior living: assisted living, personal care homes, memory care, and (progressively) independent living and CCRCs. We do not cover skilled nursing facilities or home care.
What we will never do
- Charge per-lead or per-move-in fees, or transmit your identity to a facility.
- Let payment affect rank or inclusion. Any paid placement, if it ever exists, is labeled "Featured — this community pays us" and gets no ranking privilege.
- Publish AI-generated reviews, testimonials, or fabricated quotes.
- Gate information behind contact forms, or run urgency theater ("only 2 beds left!").
- Track you. There are no analytics beacons or tracking scripts on this site.
Who runs this
Senior Living Index is an independent, founder-owned project — a solo founder working with AI-agent tooling to keep public records fresh at a cost no ad-funded directory bothers to match. It is not a nonprofit, not a government site, and not affiliated with any senior-living operator or referral agency.
